WHICH DIAGNOSTIC TESTS ARE USED TO DIAGNOSIS ENLARGED PROSTATE?
Non-Surgical Testing
If you are experience symptoms of an enlarged prostate, your doctor may order one of the following tests:
Urinalysis
Urine test.
Uroflowmetry
This provides measurements about the rate of urine flow.
MRI
During an MRI, the patient lies in a traditional or open magnet. MRI produces high quality images with greater detail than that provided by ultrasound. MRI scans are performed at your local hospital.
CT Angiogram
Type of CT scan which highlights the blood vessels. Contrast (dye) is injected through an IV during this exam. This will provide detailed anatomy about the size and shape of the prostate as well as the blood vessels which supply it. CT scans are performed at your local hospital.
Ultrasound
Our Ultrasound Technologist at NEEC will perform a painless and quick diagnostic test using ultrasound. Sound waves from the ultrasound machine take pictures of your prostate to measure its shape and size and confirm the diagnosis of BPH (enlarged prostate)
